Reflections on Annecy Le Vieux

April 21, 2014 | As told by David from .

Spring has started in Annecy le Vieux

I look up and there are mountains in the distance, a fog that swallows them whole, new blooms on the trees – red and purple and white, like a sunset that grows from the earth.

As beautiful as these ancient streets are

with their cracked cobblestone and stucco walls, the clear canal that runs through them, the bright wooden shutters on the windows, just one look at the mountains in the distance…

Archways

This city has no dead ends. There’s always some hidden passage, some tight alley of yellow and orange and blue stone, some archway you can duck under and escape into something new.

Cathédrale Saint-Pierre

You don’t have to be a Christian to pray here. You don’t have to have any religion at all.

I used to drive through Annecy on my way to ski in the mountains and often thought “this is a town I could happily live in”. Maybe someday still!

The photos are beautiful! And the comment about “no dead ends” sold me. I love exploring places and always want to see what’s around the bend. Wandering around the hidden passageways sounds like an adventure!

Thanks, Chelsea :) Yes, I know – Lou’s photos are just out of this world. How is Boston?? From the updates I see on FB it looks like you’re way happier there than NYC.
